Mike Brewer Motors reveal their top car choices for winter

It is that time of year again when we start hearing the weather predictions that this winter will be the coldest/wettest/iciest/snowiest we’ve had in 50 years! Last year it felt like winter went on forever, so with that in mind we’ve put together our top car choices for winter driving.

Ford Fiesta
The Fiesta has been the most popular car in the UK for a number of years and we can see why, because it does make a practical and affordable family car. The Quickclear heated windscreens are a great feature on these cars and can be a real time saver in the winter mornings. Plus, the Fiesta is front-wheel drive so they handle well in snow and ice.

WhatCar? says:

“The Ford Fiesta is superb to drive, smart inside and well equipped – it’s one of the very best small cars.”

Kia Sportage
With SUVs continuing to soar in popularity, the Kia Sportage has been one of our best sellers for the past couple of years. The Sportage has good ground clearance, which makes it a fantastic family car all year round. Check the specification of the Sportage before you buy though, because not all of them are all-wheel drive. However, most of our Sportage are all-wheel drive, so you’ll get even more grip on wet and icy roads!

CarBuyer says:

“The latest Kia Sportage has a high-quality interior and impressive versatility, while a seven-year warranty adds to its list of selling points.”

Audi Q3 Quattro
A rival to the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA, the Quattro technology means that Q3s are all-wheel drives so they’ll handle well in all weather conditions and in particular, harsh winter weather. Three different trim options are available, as well as both petrol and diesel engine options. It is a stylish and spacious SUV and the heated front seats will help to keep you warm in the winter!

AutoCar says:

“The Q3 is highly competent, refined, beautifully finished and tastefully styled.”

BMW X5 xDrive
This luxury 7-seater SUV is perfect for larger families and xDrive means it is all-wheel drive, so it can really grip on snowy and icy roads. As well as being super high-spec and packed with tech, most of our X5s also include cold weather packs, heated seats and heated steering wheels to keep you extra warm and comfortable!

AutoExpress says:

“It’s big, comfortable and quiet, and the diesel engines should offer decent performance with reasonable running costs.”

Range Rover Vogue
The Vogue is arguably one of the best 4-wheel drive cars in the market today and it won’t let you down in winter whether you’re off-roading or city driving. It’s a high spec, luxurious SUV and most of our Vogues will feature both heated front and rear seats and heated windscreens. Plus, they’re packed with technology to keep you and your passengers entertained.

AutoExpress says:

“There’s a real sense of occasion every time you climb aboard or are lucky enough to be driven by somebody else in one, allowing you to savour the luxurious interior.”
